This menu item allows you to fix any engines that may be broken. There are 2 steps:
This process should not take more than a couple of minutes to finish.
Step 1 - Identify Broken Engines
The Engines | Fix Engine menu item shows dialog box which contains one row for each engine request.
Look at the Status column to see whether an engine actually needs fixing or not. There are two possible states for the status column.
If an engine is consistently red, then it needs to be fixed. An engine that is red once in a while is probably OK since there are other reasons for being red besides being broken.
If none of these reasons apply, and the engine is consistently red, then you should fix the broken engine.
To fix an engine:
Note that you only need to fix an engine once, even if it has more than one request (or row) that is red. For example if Google-1 and Google-2 are two requests that are both red, just choose Google-1 to fix because that will fix Google-2 also.
Step 2 - Fix Broken Engines
Once the Fix button is clicked, then another screen appears where the actual fix to the engine is performed.
The main part if the screen is the search engine results page. Before each link in the results page is a checkbox. The idea is to checkmark those links at the start of each search result and leave the others empty. For example, if the results page has 10 search results, then 10 check boxes (the ones at the start of each result) should have checkmarks, and the others should be left empty.
To fix an engine, do the following steps:
If the Guess Button did not find the right number of search results, or there was some mistake in marking the search results then repeat steps 2 and 3 above until all search results are marked correctly. To do this, just look down the checkboxes in the search results page, find the first mistake made by iMetaSearch and correct it.
A mistake could be marking a link that does not start a result, or not marking a link that does start a result. In either case, correct it and then click the Guess button again. Keep doing this until all the search results are marked.
You can click the Cancel button at any point to abort the Fix Engines procedure. |
